New Year’s Quiz (2019 News Events)

It’s a new year and that means it’s time to reflect on what happened in 2019. This quiz is a simple activity containing numerous categories such as “World News” and “Entertainment” among others. Each category has 10 questions with 10 points being the easiest and 100 the most difficult. Of course, questions can be altered or entirely swapped out according to the level of your class. Easy to set up, most kids from junior-high through to high-school love playing it.

Family Guy – Future Predictions Lesson

Here’s a video based lesson that uses a clip from Family Guy to give students a chance to practice making predictions for the immediate future.

It’s worth bearing in mind that Family Guy is of course PG-14 material and it is best suited to that age and upwards.

Here’s a great lesson by Adam Strauss and Brian Heileman on Japanese pop culture.

The lesson is suited for junior high 3rd grade students and focuses on speaking and listening. The worksheet includes examples of Japanese pop culture from movies, anime, to fashion. Students are encouraged to describe examples of pop culture they like as well as ask about favorites, likes, and dislikes with peers. There’s also a listening test towards the end.

Japanese Food Lesson

Here’s a nice lesson plan on Japanese food from Adam Strauss and Brian Heilenman.

The lesson aims to teach useful vocabulary regarding food and cooking as well as handy adjectives for describing taste and flavor. It also introduces three separate games that allow students to; learn new vocabulary, describe food, and talk about what foods they like or dislike.
